The FBI Purge — Twelve Months In, Who's Left
Carl W. tracked every senior FBI departure since January 2026. The pattern is not what the New York Times reports.
The FBI has lost 47 of its 63 senior executive service (SES) positions since January. But the pattern is not random.
The three cohorts
- The Crossfire Hurricane team — Every FBI official who signed a Carter Page FISA application has either retired, been reassigned to Kansas City, or been referred to the DoJ IG. Twelve people.
- The 2020 election-integrity task force — Nine officials. Seven took early retirement. Two were reassigned to the Little Rock field office.
- The Mar-a-Lago raid team — Every SES-level official who authorised or approved the August 2022 Mar-a-Lago raid has left. All fourteen.
Who came in
The new Deputy Director came from the CIA's Counterterrorism Center. The new head of the National Security Division is a former USA (Eastern District of Louisiana). The new head of the Counterintelligence Division is a career FBI agent who resigned in protest in 2021 and was brought back on a personal invitation from the Director.
What Carl found
The FOIA logs show 4,300 pending requests for deep state internal communications between June 2020 and January 2023. Ninety percent of those requests were filed by Judicial Watch, the America First Legal Foundation, or independent investigators. Only 3% have been fulfilled — but the fulfilment rate has climbed from 0.8% in January to 6.4% in September.
